In November, my cousin experienced the unimaginable loss of her oldest son, Zion, who died by suicide at just 27 years old. Zion had been struggling with depression after the passing of his girlfriend, and despite his best efforts, the weight of his grief became too much to bear. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served overseas, always giving his all to those around him. His loss has left a deep void in our family and in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
Zion’s mother had to travel from New York to Texas to organize his funeral and settle his affairs. The costs have quickly added up—funeral expenses, travel, and the challenge of being separated from her youngest son, who had to stay behind in New York because it was too costly to bring him along. Zion was out of work following his girlfriend’s death and did not have much saved, making it even harder for his mother to manage these unexpected expenses on her own.
We are reaching out to our community for support to help cover Zion’s funeral costs and assist his mother as she navigates this heartbreaking time. Zion was a blessing during the short time he was here with us. He proudly served our country and gave everything he had every day. We know anything you are able to give will also be a blessing. Thank you for your kindness and support.
If you or anyone you know is dealing with loss due to suicide or are struggling with something please reach out to a prevention center so they may help you find a way through the pain. You are worth all the help we have to give.
