Supporting Harari Elders in Ethiopia

Harari Amana Foundation (HAF) is an organization dedicated to financially support disadvantaged Harari elders in Ethiopia, who are over the age of 50 with zero income, in order to help them achieve their basic day-to-day necessities
Currently, HAF is supporting 217 elders across Ethiopia and the support continues to grow. There are over 500 elders on the waiting list, and this list continues to grow.
Some of HAF projects:
· Monthly stipend - 1000 ETB is provided on a monthly basis to all 217 elders to help provide day-to- day necessities. The goal is to continue to grow the number of recipients.
· Health awareness – Provide complete physical checkups to all recipients with the help of local Harari volunteer doctors and nurses.
· Sleeping package – Provide a sleeping package to all recipients which includes a Foam Mattress, Thick Blanket,2 Bed sheets, 2 Pillows with Pillow Cases.
· Home Renovation - Improve the unlivable conditions of some of the elders’ houses, including fixing doors, roofs, painting houses, and up to reconstruction of the house if needed. In the last 3 years, 27 homes have been renovated/rebuilt.
· Ramadan Package - Distribute Ramadan gift pack for all recipients and those on the waiting list, includes dates, cooking products, and other gifts.
· Ramadan Sadaqa - Additional donation to both recipients and those on the waiting list to aid them in the holy month of Ramadan. Over 1.4 billion ETB was distributed in 2021 Ramadan.
· Holiday Meat Distribution (Udheya) – Distribution of meat during holiday season of Arafa to allow families to have an extra special holiday. HAF was able to support over 1000 families both in 2020 and 2021 udheya project.
