My name is Jayla Owens, sister of Zarya Ashley. Zarya was a victim of a senseless act of gun violence on April 20, 2021. She suffered extensive head injuries and has undergone her first surgery. Multiple surgeries will be required.

Her treatment will be ongoing resulting in my family needing to commute back and forth and incurring traveling and hotel expenses.

As you can imagine, our family is devastated from this tragedy. My goal is for my parents to be able to focus  on my sister’s healing instead of worrying about financial strain. Funds will go towards lodging, food, traveling back and forth and any bills or unexpected expenses.

Anyone who knows Zarya knows she always wanted a career in Law Enforcement. She obtained her degree in Criminal Justice from NC A&T in December 2020. She recently started working for Sampson County Detention Center and has always wanted a promising career in Law Enforcement. There are just no words to express our heartbreak.
