Zamil Ahamed Limon and Nahida Sultana Bristy were both talented, dedicated graduate students at the University of South Florida before they were brutally murdered. Their remains were found in garbage bags nearly a week after they were reported missing. Police have taken into custody Zamil's roommate.
Their families are in Bangladesh, and we have set up this fundraiser to help them offset the financial burdens associated with this senseless tragedy, including transfer of belongings and remains, lost income, and funeral proceedings. We have all lost two gifted and generous young people, and their families have lost their beloved son and daughter. Zamil and Nahida had planned to visit their families this summer and return to USF in the fall to continue their studies. We hope you will contribute to this fund to help ease the financial burden of this unexpected and heartbreaking loss, including lost income, repatriation, and other related costs, while supporting the families who were financially dependent on these two students.
My name is Kai and I was Zamil's co-major professor at the University of South Florida. I have launched this campaign in cooperation with the Bangladesh Student Association and with the full and grateful consent of the two bereaved families. GoFundMe doesn't operate in Bangladesh, so the funds will be deposited in a US account that I have set up for this purpose. I will be managing these funds and distributing them in two equal shares to Zahid Hasan Pranto, Nahida's brother, and to Mst. Lutfun Haque, Zamil's mother, to support both families. Nahida's family has requested I distribute $2700 of their share directly to Nahida's roommate, Md Shahadat Hossen Shamim, who is being forced by their heartless landlord (Ascott Place Apartment, Tampa, FL) to pay back rent. Nahida's family is directing this portion of their share of the donated funds to help her roommate avoid eviction.
