What’s happened
Zafar and Guillermo were tragically kidnapped and murdered in Mexico while working to make their home safer for Zafar’s mother. We are so grateful for everyone who worked tirelessly to try to bring them home alive. Their loss is unimaginable. Their families are grieving while also navigating the complex realities that follow such a tragedy.
As Zafar’s immediate family, we are now focused on bringing him home with dignity, surrounding his mother with the love, support, and resources that she needs, and ensuring our family is positioned to navigate the legal, logistical, and emotional challenges ahead.
Zafar was a fiercely loving person who showed up without hesitation. Now we are showing up for him.
Who we’ve lost
Zafar and Guillermo were joyful, warm, exuberant, caring people whose lives touched so many so deeply. They built their lives around care, loyalty, and connection. They were the kind of people who dropped everything for others.
Their absence is profound and deeply felt by everyone who knew and loved them.
How funds will be used

- Case-related legal consultation and advocacy support
- Zafar’s burial and a memorial for the couple
- Zafar’s family travel in relation to this tragedy
- Logistical and administrative expenses during this process
- Care and support resources for Zafar’s mother
