Giving a voice to youth in and from care
Project Outsiders, and it is a youth led social organization that works toward better outcomes for youth in and from the foster care system, through advocacy and direct support. We are trying to bridge the gap between youth in care and the decision makers when it comes to developing solutions regarding issues that makes the foster care system dysfunctional, and a traumatic experience for thousands of kids.
We plan to do this in 2 ways
1. Out Podcast called “The Foster Care Experience”
a. We’ve partnered with CYC Podcast and Rising youth to create a platform where youth can share their lived experiences to not only raise awareness, but to also put pressure on decision makers (ministry, board members, heads of the agency) to take accountability and prioritize our voices in all conversations around child welfare.
2. Individual Based Care Program
a. Through our program we will be supporting youth on microlevel through individual based care. We plan to do this by raising money for the youth that come onto our podcast to finance the support they need to help alleviate the effects of the foster care system whether that be counselling, mental health support, housing, and so on.
b. This is important because our organization is striving to emulate a healthy supportive environment to represent what proper care would look like on a regular basis. By doing this we hope to be able to teach others how to properly care for the vulnerable population and take the time to understand the complexity of caring for youth with trauma.
