Hello, it's Jaclyn. Several years ago, I connected with a brilliant Mohawk woman out at Six Nations, the largest Indigenous reserve in Canada located near Hamilton, Ontario. Not only is she an artist but she also works with Indigenous youth in the community. This year, she's off work because she's studying the Mohawk language at a deeper level so she could pass on these knowledges to youth, as well as her 4-year-old son.
Recently, my dear friend found herself in some unforeseen circumstances that has left her $2,800 less in her bank account. Without giving too many personal details, it involved helping someone else and she was blindsided in a way. She is currently relying on grocery cards among other resources but all of this is barely keeping her afloat.
With your kindness, I hope you can donate within your capacity, as Indigenous women face multiple barriers in Canada and these issues have compounded my friend's current circumstances. She has much to give - not just to youth but also to her community and I hope your support can uplift her as a leader, a mentor and most importantly, a mother.
Nia:wen or thank you in Mohawk,
Jaclyn
