Wunze Kale or as we called her in our younger years, Anne, has been afflicted with a fatal disease called ALS - Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. It began last year in March at the young age of 44. Our fun loving energetic friend no longer can do the things she loved to do. It started with slurred speech and arm weakness. As her muscles increasingly weakened, she eventually had to be fed by someone in order to eat or drink. As you may know, ALS is a fatal motor neuron disease that decreases the functionality of muscles. Over time, it affects the pulmonary muscles where even breathing can become difficult. Since her symptoms began in the Bulbar region of her brain, it has progressed rapidly. It hasn't even been 1 year since her onset of symptoms and her stage of this disease has already reached her lungs. Anne has been hospitalized and she is now on a breathing tube to help her breathe and has a feeding tube in place since swallowing any foods/liquids has been extremely difficult.

In June last year, she was no longer able to work since her speech and arm weakness prevented her from doing so. Eventually, private insurance was no longer an option. Her medical expenses have climbed and finding all around care for travel, appointments, food, cleaning, and everything else you can think of has been time consuming, expensive and most of all, emotional. I am a close friend of Anne's. My name is Christina and she has been a close friend of mine for over 30 years. Wunze Anne is facing a huge financial burden due to the medical care necessary to treat her declining condition. We have created this GoFundMe page to help with her medical needs as well as fund any end of life expense. As we all pray that a miracle can happen, we do know the harsh reality of ALS.
