Support for William Foreman

This is the story of our Uncle Billy. There are so many notable, incredible achievements this man has accomplished in his life, but today we are sharing just one.

William Foreman, or Uncle Billy to those close to him, served our beautiful country in the armed forces, fighting in a tour in Vietnam. These experiences shaped him as a person, giving him a deep appreciation of what our country stands for, and the equality and freedom that being an American represents. After a terrible accident left him permanently disabled, (he was sucked into a jet engine while on duty - but that is a whole different story) he was honorably discharged and returned home. Once home, he completed a degree in finance at Virginia Tech and went on to work as a banker for the next 20 years. Finally, he was able to retire and enjoy a full life with his family and close friends.

As everyone knows, our country has been in turmoil, as the rights of Black citizens have been overlooked and ignored. Watching these events was painful to Uncle Billy, as he spent years of his life and sacrificed the agility of his body to ensure that the freedoms America was built on are available to all citizens. In his local area, a monument of Robert E. Lee stood as a reminder of times that should fill Americans with shame.

Uncle Billy took initiative one evening and pushed down the statue himself. While he knows right from wrong, it seemed at the time that politics and local bureaucracy would keep the city from its duty of moving forward into a brighter future. Now the city is pressing charges against our 70 year old uncle, threatening him with jail time and heavy fines. Uncle Billy has spent his life protecting the citizens of our country, and has once again shown that dedication to doing what is right. It is time for us to show our support and help him in any way we can. As he goes through the process of law, he will need help with the lawyer fees and fines from the city. I’m proud to call him my uncle and proud of his dedication to equality, regardless of the red tape surrounding his actions. If you feel moved, please help us in our fight for not just our uncle, but creating a better future for all the citizens of our country. Thank you for staying with us through this journey!
