Help Support William Byrd's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Tuesday, September 1st, William was in a very bad accident. He woke up Wednesday missing his right leg from right above the knee. The doctors had no choice but to amputate his leg.
William is loved by everyone he meets...whether it is a guest he is waiting on at Fleet or 5 Church or the Butcher and the Bee...or people he takes out on a history tour. I've seen firsthand the way William can light up a room with his smile or with his little one liners. We all have! If you've worked in downtown Charleston, you also know of his love for this city and you...those he works with every day.
William has a long road ahead of him. The funds raised will help pay for the hospital bills as well as the upcoming specialist appointments and rehabilitation he will need for recovery.
From William...
But y'all, I shouldn't have even made it to the table, I was a mess, hemorrhaging blood from an artery, losing consciousness, I should have died in the back of an ambulance. But the EMT wouldn't let me go, she cursed at me, yelled at me, and kept me from giving up. I then had an incredible surgical team who literally bolted me back together. In the last few days I've talked to vascular specialists, psychs, gastrointestinal specialists, PT/OT, and even a prosthetic guy. Our first responders are heroes...from the cops who got the tourniquet on my leg to that incredible EMT who would not let me fade away, to the surgeons and nurses, and PCTs who have made my recovery possible. Especially my friends out there who work as EMTs, thank y'all so much, I shouldn't be here at all, but I am thanks to yall and the Surgical staff at MUSC.
