Support for William and Kathy

The Paramedic Community is considered to be a brotherhood. We are family. This job is challenging with its long hours and it is hard to not rely heavily on those in your corner.

William Huget has been a paramedic for 30 years caring for the sick and injured in his own community and across Alberta. For those of you who know William, he is caring, humble, and willing to help anyone. He and his wife Kathy married in 1985 in Edmonton and raised 3 children in Taber, Alberta. He served his community by starting a new church and volunteering on the Ambulance.

He has also been the primary care provider for his wife who received a devastating diagnosis of progressive MS back in 2001. This diagnosis has now left her a bedridden quadriplegic for the last 12 years.

William and Kathy have managed while he was still working, but this last fall, things took a turn with Bill’s health rendering him unable to work due to severe illness and a diagnosis of terminal stage 3 pancreatic cancer.

The treatment options for Willam are still being considered as tests and appointments continue (no surgical resection of primary possible; ? find out about chemotherapy on January 10, the first medical oncology appointment); but what is increasingly problematic is the cost associated with keeping Kathy safe and comfortable at home with the total care she requires.

William and Kathy’s wishes are to stay home together as long as possible. They would like to eventually consider purchasing a wheelchair lift for the back deck (no safe egress from the house except someone lifting her to a stair lift to get to a vehicle out front). The priority is getting the personal costs covered for 2-3 additional hired caregivers so Kathy can have the BiPAP she requires (borderline respiratory failure; sleep apnea secondary to neuromuscular MS).

They will require financial assistance with medical supplies, hiring 2-3 additional caregivers (beyond self-managed care limited funding), end-of-life costs, etc. I know that William and Kathy would be so grateful to receive financial support with their reduced income and increasing debts and costs. They will steward the investment with integrity.

The Huget's thank you in advance for your kind generosity in meeting immediate needs with a goal of $1000 for every year of Service in the City of Edmonton.

"There is no greater calling than to serve humanity."

Acts 20:35
In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said:
"It is more blessed to give than to receive."
