2026 began with an unexpected crisis for my family. My husband Wesley, who already battles Mitochondrial Disease and Hemochromatosis, was Door Dashing on his E-bike when he lost control and suffered a severe accident. He broke his right leg in several places, requiring two surgeries, a plate, eight screws, a bone graft, and a meniscus repair. After ten days in the hospital, Wesley then stayed in outside rehab for two weeks. He will be getting another x-ray on 2/26, his birthday, to see if he can begin putting some weight on his leg. If so, he will be referred out to more outside rehab, which will bring even more stress as I try to figure out rides for him there and back so I can continue to work. I am his primary caregiver, and Wesley has been on SSD since 2005. I am the main financial provider for our household, despite managing my own chronic illnesses.
At the same time, my brother is facing his own health battle. He has Moya Moya Disease and recently underwent two brain craniotomies to bypass blood flow and hopefully prevent more strokes. He suffered two strokes in 2013 and has been closely monitored by his neurologists ever since. His latest scans showed a significant loss of blood flow on the left side of his brain and the beginnings of a blockage on the right, leading to these urgent surgeries. My brother is staying with us in our small home until he is cleared to be on his own, and I am caring for both him and Wesley while working full-time and managing the household.
With medical bills, daily expenses, and the need for extra help around the house, our funds are running out. My brother has minimal health insurance, and the costs are overwhelming. I am also caring for our pet bunny, and the responsibilities feel endless. I want to thank everyone who has helped us so far. It is not easy for me to ask for help—I'm usually the caregiver—but several friends encouraged me to start this GoFundMe. Your prayers, donations, and shares mean the world to us. If you can't donate, please consider sharing our story with someone who might be able to help. Thank you from the bottom of my soul, Wesley's, and my brother's.
