I wanted to be honest and open about something important going on with my health.

As everyone knows I have IIH a neurological disorder.

I need to have another lumbar puncture done. The last one I had didn’t give the doctors the information they needed, so they have to repeat it to get an accurate pressure reading. That number is really important because it tells my neurologist how serious things are and what the next step should be.

Right now they don’t know if I can keep trying to manage this with medication, or if I might need to be evaluated for surgery to place a shunt. A shunt would help drain the extra fluid off my brain to prevent permanent damage. Surgery is the last thing I want, but we need this test to know what direction to go in.

I’ve really done everything I can on my end. I completely changed my diet, followed all medical advice, and take my medications exactly like I’m supposed to. But the medications can only do so much.

What’s been hardest is my vision. Because of swelling on my optic nerves, I’m slowly losing eyesight, mainly in my left eye. A lot of the time my vision is very blurry, and even on “good” days it isn’t clear like it used to be. It’s honestly been really scary. Also been slowly losing some hearing in my left ear. Some days sounds muffled other days just loud whooshing sounds.

I kept this to myself for a long time because I didn’t want to worry anyone, but my neurologist is now seriously talking about a shunt to stop further vision loss and hearing loss. This lumbar puncture is the next step to figure out the best way to protect my eyesight.

The hard part is the cost. Since I haven’t met my insurance deductible yet, I have to pay out of pocket for this procedure, which is estimated to be between $1,000-$1,200 If I can pay for this lumbar puncture and my next doctor appointments, I will finally meet my deductible of $3,000, and after that my medications and any future procedures, MRIs, or CT scans should be covered.

The money would primary used for this lumbar puncture procedure.

My hope is to raise at least half of the cost and set up a payment plan for the rest so I can get through this without falling behind financially.

I’m not asking for anything extra – just help with a medical bill that I really can’t handle alone right now. Anything helps, even small amounts.

Quiero ser honesta y explicarles con claridad lo que está pasando con mi salud.

Necesito hacerme otra punción lumbar porque en el procedimiento anterior los doctores no pudieron obtener la información que necesitan, específicamente el nivel de presión. Ese resultado es muy importante para que mi neurólogo pueda saber qué tratamiento debo seguir.

Sin este examen, los doctores no pueden decidir si puedo continuar solamente con medicamentos o si será necesario evaluarme para una posible cirugía para colocar un “shunt.” Un shunt es un dispositivo que ayuda a drenar el exceso de líquido del cerebro para evitar daño permanente. La cirugía es lo último que quiero, pero este examen es necesario para saber cómo seguir adelante.

Yo he hecho todo lo que está en mis manos. Cambié completamente mi dieta, sigo todas las indicaciones médicas y tomo mis medicamentos como me han indicado. Pero lamentablemente, los medicamentos solo pueden ayudar hasta cierto punto.

Lo más difícil ha sido mi vista. Debido a la inflamación de mis nervios ópticos, estoy perdiendo visión poco a poco, principalmente en mi ojo izquierdo. Muchos días veo muy borroso, y aun cuando tengo días mejores, mi visión ya no es clara como antes. Ha sido un tiempo muy difícil y aterrador para mí.

No había querido contar esto antes porque no quería preocuparlos, pero mi neurólogo ahora está considerando que una cirugía podría ser necesaria para evitar que siga perdiendo más visión. Esta punción lumbar es el siguiente paso para poder proteger mi salud y mi vista.

El problema es el costo. Como todavía no he alcanzado mi deducible del seguro médico, tengo que pagar este procedimiento de mi bolsillo. Me han dicho que costará entre $1,600 y $2,000 dólares. Si logro pagar este procedimiento y mi próxima cita médica, alcanzaría mi deducible de $3,000 dólares, y después de eso mis medicamentos y futuros exámenes deberían ser cubiertos por el seguro.

Mi meta es poder recaudar al menos la mitad del costo y hacer un plan de pagos para el resto, para poder continuar con mi tratamiento sin tanta carga financiera.

No estoy pidiendo nada extra, solo ayuda para cubrir un gasto médico necesario que en este momento no puedo manejar sola. Cualquier ayuda, por pequeña que sea, significa mucho para mí.
