A few months ago, our father, Wayne Goforth, was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
After multiple doctors, tests, and typical medical delays, he is finally getting to start treatment. He will need a series of testosterone shots (to slow the growth of a tumor in the prostate, as operation is not currently recommended), hormone shots, in addition to radiation and chemotherapy. Although the cancer has started to spread into lymph nodes and bone, we are hopeful that with prayer and a highly skilled medical team, he can overcome this and retain a quality of life for a long time to come.
Wayne is unable to work, and even with insurance, to keep up with the monthly expenses and medical bills is very trying for a single man. We are creating this GoFundMe to try and alleviate some of the financial burden as he begins his medical journey to overcome this disease.
He is a wonderful father of two daughters and a son, and a very loving and admired ‘Papa’ to 11 grandchildren (one brand new granddaughter in Michigan that he hasn’t been able to meet yet in person).
Wayne lives in Palmetto, Florida, where he grew up and went to Palmetto High School. He’s a big sports fan, especially of football and baseball: Florida State Seminoles, Dallas Cowboys, and the Atlanta Braves. He spent years playing recreational league softball at GT Bray and competing in horseshoes (was the Florida State Class-A Horseshoe Champion back in 2008). And most recently (prior to his diagnosis), enjoyed competing in local cornhole competitions. He stays true to his roots, and enjoys what his small hometown has to offer. Please keep him in your prayers.
Although he’s very proud and not the type to ask for help, he really could use it.
Please share his story and help him fight this battle.
