On October 27th Wayne took Donette to the ER because she was having stroke-like symptoms. It was soon discovered that she had a brain tumor. Everything moved very quickly with many appointments for more scans and with specialists. On November 10th she had a craniotomy to remove the tumor and they found a second one behind it. They removed “almost all” of them and sent them to be biopsied. They came back as Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), the most aggressive primary grade IV brain cancer. As a result of the craniotomy & to our devastation, Donette also suffered paralyzation of her left side, some short term memory loss, speech difficulties, and some loss of her personality & emotional expression. If you know her, you know how spunky & expressive her personality is & the joy that always oozes from her. It is especially difficult to be missing the Donette we all know & love. You also know how active & strong she is; a 5th Degree Black Belt Master in Kuk Sool Won martial arts and has always kept up with her 7 grandkids. After 3 1/2 weeks of working hard in rehab, as of the 5th of December she is now back home. She will be receiving in-home nursing care and physical, occupational, & speech therapies. On December 22nd she will begin the standard of care treatment for GBM which is 6 weeks of radiation (5 days/week) and a chemo pill. This is only the beginning of what will be a long road to recovery but as we all know, Donette has grit & is a fighter! Please pray with us for little & big miracles along the way.
This fundraiser was created to help alleviate some of the financial pressures that have landed on them during this time, such as supplies, wheelchair accessible transportation to treatments, and home healthcare & medical expenses not covered by insurance.
