Update 2/15/26:

Waylon is going home on hospice tomorrow. While we are all very nervous, we are excited to have him home. Waylon’s cares are from 5am-1am, with multiple medicine times and continuous feeds. He is currently stable but we have to always be hesitant with environment changes. Waylon and his lungs are super sensitive, the slightest change in his lungs could make him SO sick. We have done everything we can in our house to help him to the best of our abilities. I have added an amazon list at the top of things that could help us with waylon and his care. He is a super messy and stinky boy so he gets multiple outfit changes, bed sheet changes, and blanket changes.

Update 11/4: 

Waylon has gotten off the ventilator for the second time since this has been posted. This time, we have officially made our sweet boy, a dnr/dni. We know his time is coming sooner than we’d want but his comfort and happiness is our biggest priority right now. He is trending well off the ventilator but it’s only been 3 hours. He will be going home on hospice, if we are able to leave the hospital.

If you’ve been following Waylon’s journey on my Facebook, you know he’s currently on a ventilator. While we’re doing everything we can to stay hopeful, there are two possible outcomes: one, that his lungs just need more time to rest, or two, that his lungs may no longer function properly without the ventilator. We’ll know by Tuesday whether he can be extubated or if it’s time to switch to comfort care and let him pass with family by his side. If he’s able to be extubated, he’ll still require hospitalization long-term and won’t be healthy enough to come home.

Since Waylon has been in the hospital, I do not get paid to be his caregiver. My last check was mid-August and DJ has also missed quite a bit of work these last three months. DJ is on leave for work right now to be here with Waylon and I - which is why we’ve decided to set up this GoFundMe to help with our bills for the month
