My name is Benjamin Walton and on February 27th, our world changed forever.

My dad had recently undergone an amputation due to a severe infection in his leg. It was a difficult surgery, but he was fighting hard and doing everything he could to recover. After surgery, he was sent to rehab to begin healing and rebuilding his strength. We truly believed we were on the road to recovery.

Then on the night of the 27th, I received a phone call that no child is ever prepared for. My dad had been transported to the hospital because he was unable to breathe. While en route, he coded and was down for over six minutes. Our hearts stopped with him.

At the hospital, he was placed on life support. My mom and I stood by his side, praying for a miracle and hoping for any sign that he would come back to us. Instead, we were faced with the most heartbreaking decision of our lives. On February 28th at 5:00 PM, we made the painful choice to withdraw life support. It gave family and friends time to say their goodbyes, but it all happened so suddenly. Nothing could have prepared us for losing him this way.

Our dad was loved so deeply. He was an amazing husband to my mom, a proud and loving grandparent to his two grandchildren, and the kind of father who would do anything for his family. He was more than just a dad — he was our steady support, our protector, and our heart. The loss we feel is overwhelming.

Unfortunately, along with our grief comes unexpected financial hardship. We were not prepared for funeral and cremation expenses, and we simply do not have the funds to cover the costs.
