On April 14, 2022, we rescued a kitten who was abandoned at 2 weeks old. We named him Huckleberry Finn. We bottle-fed him and taught him everything his mom would have if he hadn’t been abandoned. When he was 8 weeks old, we adopted another kitten his same age from Brookhaven Animal Shelter. We named her Vivienne. They were inseparable! But when Finn was 5 months old, he went into heart failure. We rushed him to emergency, and after multiple tests, he was diagnosed with HCM. We took on a hefty bill getting him the care and medication he needed, hoping we could have any time with him before his heart would succumb to his illness. We had a great 7 more months with our boy Finn and his big heart before we lost him. Knowing he’d be impossible to replace, we worried for Vivi who missed her brother. So, 4 months later, we found ourselves at Save a Pet in Port Jefferson, where we adopted an 8-week-old kitten we named Violet. Her personality being so similar to Finn made his loss that much more tolerable and healed our hurting hearts. Violet just turned 2 years old, and our worst fear happened! We had to take her to the vet where we found out that she had a blockage in her intestines requiring emergency surgery! Taking on another financial burden was something we felt inclined to do, knowing we couldn’t lose her. A friend suggested we start a GoFundMe. Not wanting to upset or offend anyone, we battled this decision. But knowing many would choose the same as we did, we decided to create one, hoping to relieve even a tiny bit of that burden. We just couldn’t bear to lose another fur baby so soon. Any little bit of support helps, even just empathizing with our story. ❤️❤️ Myself, my sister, Vivienne, and Violet thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
