Dear Friends, Family, and Community,

On Sunday, November 24th, our family welcomed a beautiful blessing, Baby Vincent Paul, into the world. While his arrival filled us with joy, we quickly learned that something was wrong. Vincent appears to have been born with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a rare genetic condition that makes the skin extremely fragile, prone to blistering, and susceptible to sores from even the slightest friction or pressure.

In Vincent’s case, he has red patches on his feet and lesions in his mouth, which are making it difficult for him to nurse. He has already been transferred to the NICU at Stanford University, where a team of specialists is working to confirm his diagnosis through genetic testing and biopsies and to create a plan for his care.

As you can imagine, this diagnosis has placed an emotional and financial strain on our family. Ian, a high school teacher in San Francisco, and his wife Trina, who stays home to care for their three older children, are now navigating the challenges of raising a family of six while ensuring that Vincent gets the best care possible.
