Hello, my name is Isabel Layton and I’m reaching out today on behalf of our dear friend, Victoria Froberg. She is having Laparoscopic Excision Surgery on February 6th and she needs help from her community.
Victoria has been living with Stage 4 Endometriosis for some time now, possibly her whole life. For those not familiar with Endometriosis, it is a chronic disease where endometrial-like tissue grows outside of the uterus on to vital organs and ligaments throughout the body. For Victoria, she has multiple cysts and fibroids including an extremely troubling cyst that is impacting her bowels. The aim of the surgery is to remove all the cysts and fibroids and repair any damage done to her organs by the growths.
As someone who underwent this surgery, I can attest that it takes at least 4 to 6 weeks of recovery time and then months of rehab just to get back to some semblance of normal.
Just graduating with her master’s degree in Art Curation and Management, Victoria has been excited to start a new career and chapter in her life. With this debilitating disease, however, she cannot move forward without having this surgery done. She is living with constant pain and fatigue, deep irregularities with her mood and digestion, and the stress of possibly having organ failures or infertility in the future.
Here’s where we need your help – while Victoria has some health coverage, she will still be personally on the hook for 17,000 dollars.
Victoria is presently on Medicaid, which you may have seen in recent news could be in jeopardy for millions of Americans. It is currently slated to insure the expenses for the hospital stay, anesthesia, labs, and biopsies but that’s where the coverage ends. Medicaid will not cover the cost of the endometrial and pelvic surgery specialists, nor will it cover the many months of pelvic floor rehabilitation and other likely expenses after the surgery.
Please consider donating, sharing, and giving Victoria some words of support!
Anything you can spare will buy Victoria time to rest, recover, and get back on her feet working and doing the things that she loves.
I have also posted some of the art Victoria has made that serve as a reflection of her experiences these past couple of years.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
With Gratitude,
Isabel Layton
