It is with extreme sadness that we share with you the passing of our youngest brother, Scott. Words can not express our feelings for the loss we are all experiencing.  He was our parents’ youngest son, Victoria’s loving husband, and Caffrey (8) and Athena’s (6) caring father. He will be missed by so many, including his many cousins, his network of gaming friends and all of his extended family and friends.

15 years ago, Scott suffered a spinal cord infarction.  Immediately after the stroke, Scott lost the ability to walk as the lower half of his body was paralyzed. Against so many odds, Scott spent years at physical therapy learning how to walk again. Although Scott never regained full control, he worked so hard to keep his body moving and active. However, he has been suffering with pain on a daily basis. Most people would not be able to deal with this level of pain for a few days, but Scott lived with it for over 15 years.

Scott pushed his pain aside as best he could to be supportive and present for his family.  He would often show-up in pain and not say a word. Instead he would come into a room and ask “Can I get you anything?  A glass of water?”  He was constantly thinking of others and never let his pain, but would never let his inabilities interfere with our lives. Through all of this, he supported his wife Victoria in many ways and was very active in raising two wonderful children. He loved his kids immensely. Scott and Victoria have raised Caffrey and Athena to be empathetic, caring, and loving humans.

On January 19th, the pain proved to be too much. Scott made the decision to end his suffering and he is at peace now.

Caffrey and Athena:

Scott was a goofball who loved to joke around. He was a talker from day one and simply would not stop talking! He could sell you a brown paper bag for $10 even if you adamantly refused 5 times. Before his life with Victoria, Scott was also quite the ladies man! He had all the right moves and said all the right things. In the years before his spinal cord infarction, he was an avid runner and had some pretty interesting dance moves. Being his older siblings, we often playfully picked on him. He took it in stride and little did we know, we were setting him up to take on life’s biggest challenges. Scott fought so hard and this world will not be the same without him.

Scott was a loving and dedicated father. We are looking to support Victoria in her next chapter of raising Caffrey and Athena without their dad. If you know Caffrey, you know that he is one of the most caring and empathetic 8-year-olds you’ll ever meet. Upon hearing the news of his father, Caffrey reassured Victoria that “Dad taught me to be brave.” And if you know Athena, you know that she is one of the world’s sweetest little six-year-olds.

If you see Victoria and the kids, give them a big bear hug just like dad used to do.

We love you, Scott. And we will never forget you.
