I have invasive ductal carcinoma in my right breast, and this week I’ll be getting my port put in to start chemotherapy. My markers came back triple negative, which means my treatment plan will be more aggressive. After chemotherapy, which could last up to 8 weeks, I’ll have surgery and then most likely radiation. I see my oncologist on Wednesday to go over our plan and next steps.

The costs are overwhelming. My insurance has a 20% copay for specialists and hospital visits, and I don’t know what other expenses might come up. I’ll need gas to get back and forth for appointments and chemo since it’s out of town, and there will be more travel for surgery and radiation. On top of that, there are everyday bills that might arise while I focus on my health.

The most important thing in my life is my children, grandchildren, my husband of 36 years, and my furbabies. We’re also raising our grandson, and have since he was 6.
