Uncle Ron, a U.S. Army veteran, has spent his life quietly helping those around him. He has no children of his own, but his generosity and kindness have helped many, including myself. When I needed a place to stay during college, Uncle Ron gave me a spot to park my camper, and his support helped me graduate. I later left the camper with him, and it is now his only shelter after a devastating loss.
Uncle Ron has lived in the Hardin Valley area for most of his life. On the morning of February 2nd, 2026, a fire destroyed his 1950s mobile home. He escaped with his life, but lost everything else, his home, clothing, and all personal belongings. Uncle Ron has always lived simply, without electricity and with very few resources. Now he is displaced and starting over with nothing but the clothes he was wearing. He is currently staying in the camper, which thankfully has electricity, but he faces a long road to recovery.
The Hardin Valley area is economically thriving, but zoning and building codes have changed over the years. Unfortunately, this means we will not be able to replace Uncle Ron’s dwelling with the same type of home he had before. The funds raised here will help cover immediate basics, but more will ultimately be needed to provide a stable, long-term housing solution.
Uncle Ron was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after a major injury. He served as a paratrooper and worked as a technician for power generators, and throughout his life he has faced challenges with resilience and a positive spirit. Despite his own hardships, he has never been one to ask for help. He is also a longtime contributor to the local volunteer fire department, whose firefighters responded faithfully in icy conditions to contain the fire that destroyed his home.
This fundraiser is to help cover his immediate needs—clothing, food, and toiletries—as well as temporary housing, transportation, and replacing essential items. Veterans Affairs and the American Red Cross have been contacted, but assistance takes time. Your support will help bridge the gap and provide Uncle Ron with dignity and stability as he begins to rebuild.
Transparency note: Updates will be shared as Uncle Ron’s situation evolves, including progress on housing, assistance received from support organizations, and how funds are being used to support his recovery.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference in Uncle Ron’s recovery. If you are unable to donate, sharing this campaign is just as valuable. Thank you for supporting a veteran during this moment of unexpected loss and transition. Please consider sharing with others who may want to help.
