Support for Uncle Dan’s Final Goodbye

Our family is heartbroken to share that my Uncle Dan’s health has rapidly declined, and hospice officially began care yesterday. He is now unable to get out of bed, his speech comes and goes, and he currently only has limited use of his right hand. While this has been incredibly hard, we are grateful that his new pain medications are keeping him comfortable and allowing him to rest peacefully. Hospice nurses have been wonderful in helping with his care and making sure his comfort remains the top priority. This morning, my Aunt Sharon broke down under the weight of everything happening. On top of navigating the emotional reality of losing her husband, she is overwhelmed by the unexpected financial burden of funeral expenses. When I asked whether she would like me to set up a GoFundMe so that those who are willing and able could support them, she said yes—with one very important request: She wants everyone to know that there is absolutely no obligation. Please only give if you want to and are able to. Your love, prayers, and memories mean just as much.

For decades, Uncle Dan worked as a beloved bus driver for Poudre School District. He truly loved his job and every child who stepped onto his bus. He made countless kids feel safe, seen, and cared for, and he carried that same kindness into every part of his life. As we prepare for his final goodbye, we want to honor him the way he deserves—but the cost of even the most modest service is more than Aunt Sharon can manage alone. I have taken on helping with planning and fundraising so she can focus on spending these precious last moments with him. At this time, we kindly ask that you refrain from reaching out directly to the family, as they are overwhelmed with care needs, emotions, and visitors. Your support here allows them the space to simply be with him. If you have photos of Uncle Dan, please email or message them to me. I am putting together something special for his service and would love to include the memories that meant so much to all of you. Thank you for your compassion, your prayers, and your support—whether that is financial or simply holding our family in your heart during this incredibly difficult time.
