Four years ago, our lives changed forever when Tyson was unexpectedly diagnosed with a grapefruit-sized teratoma brain tumor. He underwent a 15-hour surgery, and doctors were able to successfully remove 95% of the tumor. He is 15.

Since then, Tyson has faced more challenges than any child should. As a result of the tumor and surgery, he has been diagnosed with diabetes insipidus, hypothyroidism, adrenal insufficiency, low growth hormone, and he has experienced multiple seizures. Through it all, Tyson has shown incredible strength and resilience.

During his annual MRI in November 2025, our worst fears returned when doctors discovered four new tumors. After further testing and a biopsy, we received the devastating news that Tyson has cancer.

The hopeful news is that this type of cancer responds well to treatment. Tyson will begin chemotherapy at BC Children’s Hospital, followed by radiation treatment in Seattle. Seattle is home to a specialized radiation machine designed specifically for children, significantly reducing the risk of long-term side effects. We are incredibly grateful this option exists for Tyson.

However, this life-saving treatment means our family will need to temporarily relocate to Seattle for approximately six weeks. Being away from home brings significant financial strain, including travel, accommodations, meals, and medical-related expenses.
