Support for travel and living costs after TBI

Donation protected
Hi everyone,
I’m creating this fundraiser on behalf of our friends — Alfie’s parents, Liza and Martin — who are living through every family’s worst nightmare. I’m hoping that as a community we can ease even a small part of the enormous strain they are under right now.

On 10th October, 17-year-old Alfie was involved in a freak accident, falling an estimated 18–24 metres. The impact caused a traumatic brain injury (TBI). At the scene, Alfie suffered multiple seizures and had to be placed into an induced coma immediately. He was rushed to the critical care unit at the Heath Hospital, where his parents spent 19 days of absolute hell praying for their son to keep fighting.

In those early days, Alfie was hooked up to countless machines — monitors, ventilation, and even an ICP bolt inserted into his skull to monitor pressure. Every day was terrifying and unpredictable.

Alfie then spent his 17th birthday on the neurology high-dependency unit, confused, frightened and suffering from TBI-related amnesia. He didn’t understand why he was in hospital or even which hospital he was in. Watching him go through this has been heartbreaking for his family.

4 weeks, 5 days, after the injury, Alfie was transferred to a rehabilitation facility. This is a positive step, but it also means a long, difficult road ahead. There is now a real possibility that Alfie will be spending Christmas in hospital.

Alfie is currently being treated over an hour away from home, and neither parent drives. They also have another son at home, meaning they are desperately trying to balance being present for Alfie while still caring for their other child — something that has become incredibly difficult.

With Christmas almost here, the family is under even more pressure.

How Your Donation Helps

Every contribution — no matter how big or small — will go directly towards supporting Alfie’s family with:
• Travel costs to and from the hospital
• Food and living expenses while they spend long days at Alfie’s bedside
• Support for their other son at home, ensuring he is cared for during this difficult time
• A little help to give the family a special Christmas, easing the financial burden so they can create some moments of joy and comfort despite the circumstances
• Any additional unexpected costs that come with long-term hospital care far from home

Your support will give this family breathing room during the most traumatic and overwhelming period of their lives.

Thank you for taking the time to read Alfie’s story. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser means just as much. Let’s help this family stay strong, stay close to Alfie, and give them the support — and the Christmas — they truly deserve as they navigate this heartbreaking journey
