Hi, my name is Tony Ramirez and I’m reaching out during one of the most difficult times my family has ever faced.

My mom was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer. Shortly after her diagnosis, we learned that the cancer had already spread to other areas of her body, leaving no treatment options. She was placed on hospice and now requires around-the-clock care. Due to the rapid progression of the disease, she was not given much time, and everything has happened far faster than anyone could have imagined.

My mom lives in Oklahoma, while I live in Georgia. Because of this, travel has become a major challenge — both financially and in terms of time away from work — but being there for her and handling her affairs is not optional.

Unfortunately, my mom did not have her end-of-life plans in place before this diagnosis. She currently has legal guardianship of my niece, and that guardianship must be transferred to my wife and me before my mom passes so that my niece does not end up in the foster system in Oklahoma. This process requires court hearings, legal fees, and repeated travel between Oklahoma and Georgia. My niece will be moving to Georgia over Christmas break, which also comes with moving and living expenses.

In addition to guardianship and legal costs, we are facing travel expenses, time off work, end-of-life arrangements, and the task of clearing out my mom’s residence as her health continues to decline rapidly. Time is truly of the essence.

We know it’s the holiday season and that money is tight for many families, but we are humbly asking for help to manage this unexpected and overwhelming situation.
