My journey has been filled with unexpected challenges. I was diagnosed with rectal cancer that eventually spread to my liver and lungs. The rectal cancer caused a blockage in my colon, and a chemotherapy drug I was taking weakened my colon further, leading to a rupture. This same drug also blocked new blood vessels from growing, which made my recovery much slower than expected. When my colon ruptured, my rectum and much of my colon had to be removed, leaving me with a permanent colostomy. I have been hospitalized since late January, unable to continue any cancer treatments during this time.


The financial strain has been significant. The money raised here will help cover medical bills that insurance does not pay, as well as living expenses for my wife and preteen son if I am unable to return to work. I have used up most of my paid time off, and while I do have long-term disability through work, it is at a reduced amount. We had recently purchased land with the hope of generating some income, but I will likely not be able to continue with that plan. If the cancer takes me sooner rather than later, these funds will also help support my family during that difficult time.
