Timothy David Mertens was a great man in his community and with his family. He devoted the last fifteen years of his life to Open Door Christian Home Ministries, where he helped people work through drug and alcohol addictions and find purpose and hope in lives of sobriety. When he was diagnosed with cancer, he used it as an opportunity to share his faith and hope for eternal life with Christ through his health hardships. He also was a great family man and spent most of his free time and vacations with his brothers, nephews and nieces.
Tim gave his life to the ministry and, at the end, had to surrender some of his life benefits so that he could go on social security. For that reason, he has a couple of end-of-life financial needs: first and foremost, the crematory services need to be paid for. We are working with Open Door Baptist Church, who graciously have allowed us to have the service at their church free of charge, but there are other odd charges that need to be paid for the memorial service. Next, he had several credit accounts on his credit that we are hoping to settle, such as his truck and furniture, and much of his side-business equipment, which is mostly lawn equipment. Additionally, he owes some money in taxes that we are trying to get squared away.
We have received an overwhelming amount of love from Tim’s community. Some have expressed an interest in helping cover the costs associated with Tim’s end-of-life expenses, so we created this GoFundMe for that purpose. Any support you can offer, whether through a donation or by sharing this fundraiser, is deeply appreciated. Your kindness will help honor Tim’s legacy and ease the financial burden on our family during this difficult time.
