Our oldest son, Thomas, is currently hospitalized for respiratory and gastrointestinal complications. He is receiving high-flow oxygen, IV fluids, and multiple medications while the medical team works to stabilize his breathing and GI function. As his full-time IHSS caregiver, I am with him every step of the way, but under California IHSS regulations, caregivers cannot be paid for any hours while the recipient is in a hospital or medical facility.
