My name is Elizabeth and I’m the loving daughter of Thomas Woytus. On Wednesday, October 29, my father went for his evening walk. Unbeknownst to him, it would end in tragedy. While crossing a road in Florissant, he was struck by a moving vehicle. The Ford F150 was traveling around 40 mph. My dad didn’t stand a chance. EMS rushed him to the trauma center at Mercy Hospital where he sustained injuries of a broken arm, collapsed lung, broken pelvis, and lacerations all over his body. My dad was wearing a yellow reflective vest and headlamp, but his best efforts in trying to be safe had gone unnoticed by the driver.
Our father fought hard in the hospital. He went through surgery twice and was placed on a ventilator and sedation in hopes his body could rest and recover. The trauma was far too great for him. While in the hospital, his body began failing. He had a stroke, pneumonia, and blood clots formed in both his legs while there. The ICU nurses and doctors were so caring and attentive to the delicate balance of life, but his chances of survival diminished by the day. His children went to be by his side every day he was there. We talked to him, prayed with him, played his favorite music, and held his hand.
He was so loved by many.
Our father was hardworking, loving, thoughtful, and just an all-around nice man. Our family is setting up a GoFundMe in order to pay for funeral expenses. We also understand not everyone is able to give and that's okay. If you would be willing to just keep our family in your prayers and maybe share our page, that would be a blessing.
We truly feel the love and support that’s been poured out over our family the past two weeks.
Thank you for taking the time to read my dad's end-of-life story.
We find peace in knowing he is no longer suffering and with his mom, dad, brother, and sister in heaven now. We will love you forever, Daddy! Please watch over us.
