Dear friends and family,
We are reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for support for my nonverbal brother, Thomas (29), and our dad, John. Thomas is battling a germ cell tumor that has spread to both lungs. On April 29th, his lung collapsed, requiring him to be airlifted to the hospital. After being stabilized and completing a 5-day chemotherapy treatment, he was urgently transferred to the ICU tonight due to kidney failure.
Our dad hasn't left Thomas's bedside since April 30th—even while fighting his own battles. Still recovering from March prostate cancer surgery, Dad was actually admitted himself for 5 days during Thomas's stay to treat an active UTI. He is now back at Thomas's side on antibiotics. Meanwhile, I am home caring for my sister, who also lives with Fragile-X Syndrome. Living 70 miles away, the 140-mile round trips for supplies are draining our resources. Our previous fundraiser was accidentally closed due to a lack of updates, so we are starting fresh.
We urgently need help with travel and fuel for the ongoing 140-mile daily commutes, daily meals for Dad while he lives out of the ICU, and accessible transport to replace Dad's heavy truck with a fuel-efficient, low-to-the-ground vehicle for him and Thomas.
