Support for Thien Pham
Donation protected
My family seeks help to pay for medical and funeral expenses for our brother, Thien Pham, who passed away on January 10, 2024.
Thien was in a severe accident around 9:45pm New Year’s Eve 12/31/23 in Rochester, NY. A head-on collision with another equally sized car. When paramedics arrived, he was unresponsive with no heartbeat, he was revived two times on the way to the hospital and once more after reaching the ER.
At the ER, in order to try to control the bleeding, he underwent several emergency surgeries. Overall, he received around 100 units of blood, and it took almost 4 days to get the bleeding under control.
Since the main focus was blood loss, there wasn’t any time to look at what else was wrong, but we did know that he had several skull fractures, several broken ribs and various other things that were apparent just from looking at him.
We were very hopeful for Thien’s recovery at this point, but still didn’t know what his brain function would be or if he would wake up from his coma. We didn’t know exactly how long his recovery would be.
On Saturday 1/6/24, we received results back from Thien’s MRI and were told that he had no brain function. Much of his large brain was gone, the two halves of his brain sheared, and neutrons had disconnected. Doctors told us his traumatic brain injury was irreversible, which would have resulted in lifelong damage and disabilities. He was taken off pain medications.
On Sunday 1/7/24, Thien was fighting pneumonia and a blood infection.
Thien was showing involuntary movements that gave us false hope, but was still in a coma state. Doctors weren’t getting any response from him. His right pupil was reacting inconsistently, while his left pupil showed little to no response.
On Wednesday 1/10/24, Thien was taken off life support and passed away peacefully with his family by his side at 9:25am.
Thien remained in critical condition for 10 days under the care of the very passionate staff in the ICU, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, taking care of him. The doctors consistently said “don’t go far, this is still not looking good” to my family.
Thien was 31 years old. He was a loving son, brother, boyfriend, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, co-worker, neighbor, and friend to many people. He will always be remembered as an energetic, passionate young man with endless love for his family.
Please consider contributing to Thien’s medical and funeral expenses. He fought for his life, but his brain damage was too far gone which was the unfortunate end to the long life that he had ahead of him.
