My name is Kamehalani Ortiz and I am a friend of the Young family. I'm organizing this campaign on behalf of Corrie Young and her family in Pearl City, who have been devastated — not once, but twice — by floodwaters in just the past few months.
In March 2026, back-to-back Kona Low storms sent Waiawa Stream surging into Corrie's neighborhood, flooding her home and destroying belongings she had worked hard to accumulate. Like so many Pearl City families, she rolled up her sleeves, gutted the damaged walls and flooring, and began the long road to rebuilding — out of her own pocket, while awaiting assistance.
Then, on Friday, May 16, before she could finish repairs, the stream overflowed again.
This time, the floodwaters carried sewage into her home. Corrie and her family have been left scooping contaminated mud from the same rooms they were already trying to restore. As Corrie put it herself: "We're getting very tired." She had wisely held off on replacing walls and flooring in case it flooded again. It did. And now she faces the full cost of recovery — again.
The damage includes:
• Structural repairs to walls, flooring, and framing throughout the home
• Replacement of appliances destroyed or contaminated by floodwater
• Professional remediation of sewage contamination — a serious health hazard
• Deep cleaning, mold prevention, and long-term waterproofing
Corrie is a resilient woman who has refused to give up on her home. She has been vocal in calling on state agencies to properly maintain Waiawa Stream — a problem that has impacted this neighborhood for years. But advocacy takes time, and the Young family needs help now.
Every dollar raised goes directly to Corrie and her family's recovery. No funds go to any organization or overhead.
If you can give — even a small amount — please do. And if you can't give right now, please share this with your friends, family, and coworkers. The Youngs have been through enough. Let's help them come home.
