Support for the Whitney Family After Tragic Loss

On June 15, 2026, the Whitney family experienced every homeowner's worst nightmare. A devastating house fire tore through the Fremont, Nebraska home of Patrick Whitney, his daughter, Traci and Traci's significant other, Richard Poethig Jr (Richie). Within moments, the place they had called home since the late 1980s—a house filled with over three decades of irreplaceable memories, laughter, and love—was completely demolished.

Tragically, this fire didn’t just take their material belongings. It took the heart of their family.

We are heartbroken to share that Valerie Whitney—a beloved wife, devoted mother, and the bedrock of the Whitney family—lost her life in the tragedy. The fire also claimed the lives of their cherished family pets, compounding an already unimaginable grief.

In a single night, Patrick, Traci, and Richie lost everything: their anchor, their home, their pets, and every single possession they owned.

As they navigate the crushing weight of this sudden loss, the reality of rebuilding their lives from scratch is setting in. The financial burden of a tragedy like this is overwhelming. We have started this GoFundMe to wrap Patrick, Traci, and Richard in community support and help alleviate the immediate financial stress they are facing including housing, funeral cost, and medical bills.
