In Memory of Mama Walton

My name is Krish Arora, and I am writing on behalf of my best friend, Myles Walton, and his family during one of the most heartbreaking moments of their lives.
Earlier this morning, at approximately 12:00 AM, Nicole Walton, known and loved by all of us as Mama Walton, passed away. Known as a devoted mother, a pillar of strength, and one of the most beautiful souls this community has ever known, she had been battling a rare and severe brain infection. A condition so uncommon that her neurosurgeon of 35 years shared she had only encountered one similar case throughout her entire career. Despite everything, Mama Walton fought with grace and dignity until the very end.

Her passing comes after years of quietly carrying an unimaginable weight. Six years ago, her husband Timothy Walton lost his battle with cancer, leaving Mama Walton to raise their three children on her own. She never complained and never wavered. She kept a roof over the family’s heads, provided food on the table, and most remarkably, a genuine smile on her face every single day, determined to make sure her children never felt alone or without love.

She succeeded.

Mama Walton leaves behind three incredible children: Myles, 21, Mya, 18, and Malakeye, 15. All three were raised right here in Loudoun County, attending John Champe and Lightridge High Schools. Malakeye is currently a sophomore at John Champe, where he carries a bright future both in the classroom and on the varsity basketball court, a future his parents always dreamed of for him.

Myles, at just 21 years old, has stepped up as the head of the household. With the same quiet strength Mama Walton modeled for him his entire life, he is committed, alongside Mya, to giving Malakeye every opportunity their parents worked so hard to provide. That kind of responsibility at that age is extraordinary, and it deserves to be met with extraordinary support.

Those of you who know Myles, knows he is fiercely independent. Asking for help does not come naturally to him, and truthfully, he would likely resist this if he could. Though, this is one of those moments where the people who love him have to step in, not because he cannot handle it, but because he should not have to handle it alone.

Every year, Myles and our friend group organize fundraisers during the Thanksgiving season to give back to this very community. Today, that community has the chance to give back to him.

Mya has already set up a GoFundMe in her mother's memory, and we fully support and encourage contributions to that fund. In addition, we are launching a separate fund specifically dedicated to covering housing costs, utilities, monthly bills, and building an emergency reserve for the family as they navigate this transition.

Beyond financial contributions, any support in the form of rental assistance resources, case workers, grief counselors, or any other services that could help ease this process for Myles, Mya, and Malakeye would be deeply appreciated. If you know someone, know a resource, or simply know how to help, please reach out.
Mama Walton gave everything she had to her children and to this community. Let's make sure her kids know we were paying attention. Thank you.
