Hayley Vest UPDATE from Kelly: 11/9 Hayley Vest UPDATE! Yesterday and Today have been the BEST days for Hayley! On day 11 she got a shower, got to cruise the halls in a wheelchair & her dad spent the day with her. I had the joy of delivering a special blanket from Amber Weston and Mac plus a poster & basket of goodies from our Century 21 Realty Solutions family. She got 8 hours of sleep last night and today she got some DOG THERAPY from Glenn Presser and Nicole Nilson ‘s pup Pookie! Forrest Vest has been the BEST nursing assistant and PT assistant for her. She’s able to move her leg slightly with lots of work which is a great sign. She got to Face Time her grandparents and best of all, her uncle Ryan Keating & Catherine Elyssa Keating flew in from San Francisco today!
11/5 UPDATE: the doctors were able to take Hayley off life-support! 2 days and 2 nights in a coma and on life-support gave her body the time it needed to rest and her lungs are now fluid free. The doctor said her high blood pressure gave her congestive heart failure. So many scary things happening every day, but we felt today was a major win! Thank you for praying for my girl. She’s all I’ve got.
Sunday 11/3: Hayley had a rough night breathing. We are so glad that Cheyenne Stettler’s mom Whitney was there advocating for Hayley whenever she felt something wasn’t quite right. They did a CT scan of her lungs this morning and there is fluid in them. They brought her back to the ICU again, intubated her and placed her in a medically induced coma for a few days. They will wake her each morning to make sure all is OK, but said her body desperately needs to rest so it can start to heal. Please feel free to share. Any amount you can donate to their GoFundMe will certainly help them with this life-changing event. We feel so lucky to live in the community we do and have the love and support of so many.
People have reached out asking another way they can donate and what Hayley’s mailing address is for cards of well wishes:
Hayley Vest,
PO Box 55.
Kasilof, AK. 99610.
Halloween Update: the Rheumatologist and Kidney Specialist in Anchorage came to Providence this afternoon and determined that this entire episode is probably because Hayley’s LUPUS meds got changed in June. Everything has been off for her since then. It’s the only reasonable explanation at this point. They started her on steroids this afternoon and she is reacting well to them!
11:00 AM Thurday UPDATE:
They are doing a scan of Hayley‘s kidneys now and they are worried about them. They have still not been able to get an echocardiogram of her heart. They are thinking that her LUPUS may have been the cause for all of this. They are trying to find a rheumatologist to come into the hospital ASAP. If they cannot get one, then they may be flying Hayley to Seattle. Please pray that they can locate a rheumatologist!
Dear friends and family
We are starting this go fund me to help our dear friends, Hayley and Forrest Vest.
On Monday morning, October 28th, Hayley got dizzy and fell in the shower. The left side of her body was paralyzed and she was disoriented. Forrest called the ambulance and they determined that she had had a stroke. A CT scan showed a 1.4 cm blood clot in her brain. Hayley and her mom flew to Anchorage on the Life Med plane instead of the helicopter because of the snowstorm and poor visibility. Hayley went right into emergency surgery which was successful. Shortly after, another CT scan showed she had a new brain bleed. She had to go in for a dangerous, second surgery. It was a rough night for everyone, but she pulled through. Today she is showing signs of slight movement in her left side and was able to drink and have applesauce, which she was thrilled about. She had an echocardiogram earlier today that was inconclusive, she will get a TEE (trans esophageal echocardiogram) where they go down the throat to inspect her heart.
It’s going to be a long road of recovery for Hayley and Forrest. They are recommending she has intensive therapy in Anchorage for 4 hours a day when she is released from the ICU. They don’t know a particular timeline yet for anything, but there will be a lot of expenses, loss of work and being away from their home and their dogs. They are lucky to have major medical insurance, but even after their deductible, it’s still going to be a tough year for this young family. Anything you can help with would be greatly appreciated.
They want to thank everyone for all of their prayers and extensions of love over last 2 days. We do believe in miracles and with a strong and loving support system of family and friends, they will get through this.
Update: 2pm 10/30
They’re still running tests to figure out how and why this happened. Once she’s stabilized and able to be without around the clock care, she will be moved to St. Elias where she can get all of the therapy she needs and a family member can always be there with her.
Please consider making a donation to ease their financial hardship during this emergency and Hayley’s recovery. Anything you can help with is greatly appreciated.
