Hi all, I'm Ashley, reaching out on behalf of many families who love the Vantols, and want to help out some the of best people we know:
The Vantol family home experienced wildly awful flooding on 3/10, with failed city systems resulting in 2 feet of standing water around the entire outside of the house. Once the water busted through latched shut windows, it created a hole in the foundation where the previous owner had a hidden safe. It flooded the boys' bedroom with 2 feet of standing water covering their belongings, trapping Booker's cat Biggie Smalls. (Thankfully, Biggie is now safe.) From when drains failed at 9:59pm to when the basement flooded at 10:15pm, the furnace, AC, washer and dryer were all ruined. The home is livable again-- kind of-- with the furnace fixed, kids sharing rooms and the dining room as a makeshift bedroom.
The city denies responsibility, homeowners' insurance won't cover damages or cleanup, and attorneys have not returned calls yet. Initially when I told them that people want to help, that we want to start a GoFundMe because this is insane, Emily said, "honestly it's awful but I know there have to be people struggling worse"— typical Vantols, always thinking of others.
The funds will help with immediate repairs and deeper cleaning, replacing essentials for the boys, and maybe even helping with bigger costs (foundation repair, attorney fees). Justin and Emily are beyond hardworking but this mountain is too large for anyone to climb alone.
If you know of a an attorney who is an expert in cases like this, please message this page, or Emily and/or Justin separately. Please also consider donating during this Easter (and Passover) season. Thank you all! Happy Easter!
