The University Blvd. Beautification Project will transform 3,500 sq ft of drab walls into a vibrant showcase of public art 1 block from the major intersection at Georgia Ave and University Blvd. in Wheaton, MD. This initiative will significantly enhance community pride, visibility, and engagement while creating a welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors alike. The project will feature art work of 4-7 major muralists, with years of experience producing large scale community murals throughout the DMV area.
Curated by Projectivity Group, a non-profit arts organization with experience producing over 150 murals throughout the country - this mural project aims to pay homage to the history of Wheaton/Silver Spring while also showcasing the modern hispanic cultural identity that has shaped the neighborhood in the last 3 decades.
The theme for this project will be informed by a series of community info sessions hosted in downtown Wheaton and promoted to residents, local businesses and people that work in the are.
In partnership with University of Maryland, this mural project will pair active students minoring or majoring in the Arts disciplines as apprentices for each pro-muralist.
The program will aim to give students 1st hand experience producing a large public art project alongside qualified professionals and learning all of the steps involved.
