On Tuesday, January 7th, Joe Tumminello was rushed to the University of Michigan’s Frankel Cardiovascular Center for emergency heart surgery. A skilled team of cardio-thoracic surgeons discovered that a birth defect is what likely led to a tear in Joe’s aorta, causing both Type A and Type B Aortic Dissection. After 10 hours in the operating room, the surgeons were able to reconstruct a portion of aorta (the ascending aorta, aortic arch and aortic valve). Pending his recovery from this initial, extremely crucial surgery, there will more than likely be a second surgery to repair the tear that still exists and extends below his heart (Type B Aortic Dissection).
We are so grateful that Joe is alive and for the abundance of miracles (big & small) that have helped him and the family pull through. Doctors have emphasized that it will be a long recovery process, and as the rebuilt portion of his aorta continues to heal, doctors have to make sure he is not over-stressing the Type B Aortic Dissection that still exists. Unfortunately, no one can predict when he will be able to return to work.
As you can imagine, these past weeks have been a difficult and emotional roller coaster for the Tumminello Family, and with both Joe & Sara unable to work, the struggle is not nearly over.
Your donations, no matter how big or small, can truly help Joe and the Tumminello Family focus on Joe's recovery, rather than stress about paying hospital bills, monthly bills, and simply making ends meet.
Please join me in giving them our love, support and help as Joe makes his full, miraculous recovery!
Thank you!
