Support for The Theis Boys' Recovery

Donation protected
Jaxson and Joshua Theis, and their family from Elverta, California, need all of our support and prayers for their speedy, or at least eventual recovery from their horrific car accident.

On Sunday, July 12th, 2020, near Pioneer California, Jaxson (18) and Joshua Theis (16) were in a very serious car accident while driving home from a family camping trip in Tahoe.

Their vehicle drifted to the right of the roadway edge and then over corrected back to the left side of the roadway. This caused their vehicle to spin in a counterclockwise direction across the roadway, launch off the edge, and roll down a steep embankment before colliding into a massive oak tree. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels on the south side of State Route 88. Additional information about the accident can be found here: @ThePineTree.Net (Calaveras County News Site).

When emergency services arrived, both boys were found unconscious and their vehicle’s roof needed to be removed to pull Jaxson and Joshua from it.  Jaxson required immediate CPR by paramedics on scene, possibly the reason for his broken ribs, but thankfully saving his life.

Joshua suffered a major head injury and both boys were life flighted to the Roseville hospital where Joshua was rushed into surgery to relieve the pressure in his skull.  Joshua was, and still is, currently in a medically induced coma due to the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), requiring the removal a portion of his skull in order to relieve the pressure that is constantly building up around his brain. Along with the potential need for long term physical, speech, and emotional therapy, Joshua also has cervical and thoracic breaks in his neck, and these will keep him under major medical care for a very long time.

The surgeons worked tirelessly for many hours to save Joshua’s life and he has a chance of getting out of this whole, and it's a miracle that he has made it this far. Although Joshua is still in a medically induced coma, the hospital wakes him out of it for an hour or two, daily, to check his responses.  On Wednesday, during one of these brief times he is awaken, the nurse chose this time to brush his teeth and watched to see his responses. Josh opened his eyes once & stared straight ahead for a brief moment and he grabbed the toothbrush. This was likely an involuntary response, but his brain has control of his arm and hand, which is a positive sign, and everyone is hopeful.  He has yet to respond to a verbal command in any way and does not make eye contact, but… again, everyone is hopeful and praying that his brain function returns to normal when he has completed the healing process.

After close to a week in the hospital, Jaxson is now at home resting and recovering with injuries consisting of a broken back, broken clavicle, broken ribs, and bruised lung that will keep him off his feet for several months. Jaxson will be required to wear a back brace for many months while he assists in the long-term care that Joshua will likely require.

Jaxson only learned about the severity of Joshua’s injuries the day he was being released from the hospital (July 16th). Jaxson is having a very rough time, as you could imagine, emotionally dealing with the entire situation and how it has affected his little brother. Jax & Josh have always been inseparable, best friends in addition to them being brothers.

Their parents, Mitch and Amy Theis really need our help and support during this trying time for their family.  Both boys will require an extended recovery and therapy period, for many months, and possibly years to come.

Any contribution would be so appreciated, along with thoughts and prayers for Jaxson and Joshua!
