Jake Taylor, who celebrates his 43rd birthday on May 14, has been enduring an aggressive fight with cancer for the last 18 months.
In October 2016, during an otherwise typical afternoon, Jake was suddenly in terrible pain, which became unbearable by evening. A previously-unknown mass in his kidney had ruptured. After surgery to remove his kidney and adrenal gland, tests confirmed his diagnosis: Stage 4 Renal Cell Carcinoma, Clear Cell.
Since the original diagnosis, Jake and his wife Jen have amassed hundreds of miles traveling from their home in Florida's panhandle to Jacksonville, Alabama, and Houston for treatments, infusions, procedures, and surgeries. Jake had another mass removed in his abdomen, has been on and off chemo, through numerous rounds of radiation, suffered extreme chest pains, had nodules discovered in his lungs, tumors in his liver, and more cancer metastasized into his bones and vertebrae. The tumor on his L2 vertebrae was so large, it fractured the vertebrae, requiring back surgery with pins, rods, and cement.
Jake and Jen have been members of the Asurion family for 9 and 11 years, respectively. This GoFundMe campaign is being set up by Jen’s work family, who is so grateful for her never-ending willingness to put others before herself, her hilarious quick wit and natural ability to bring joy to any situation, and how she is impressively dedicated to any task that comes her way, big or small, no matter how difficult. All of these characteristics have been present throughout her fight for Jake’s health and while maintaining a sense of normalcy for their two children, Kayleigh, 17, and Branton, 10. Kayleigh will be heading to college in a few months and the emotional and financial toll of their family’s situation is an immense weight to bear.
We want to help. 100% of everything raised will go directly to The Taylors, to be used at their discretion, be it medical, travel, gas, food, or college expenses, home maintenance, or having fun with the kids. Thank you to everyone who is able to donate to them. We love this family!
