On October 28th, my daughters husband Dave was admitted to the hospital for the third time in 2 months for Crohn’s disease complications. He was unable to eat or drink, in severe pain, and was rapidly losing so much weight due to a bowel obstruction. They wanted to do an emergency surgery but the surgeon didn’t think he would survive. They put a PICC line in, hoping that would keep him stable enough so that they could do surgery in a few weeks. Unfortunately in the meantime, his bowel suddenly perforated and he was rushed into the OR for an emergency surgery. He had 6 cups of fluid in his abdomen. He woke up from surgery with a stoma and ileostomy bag, and 2 drainage ports for all the fluid. He has had so many complications and at 6’2 weighs only 98lbs. He was in the hospital for 34 days.
While he was able to come home 2 weeks ago, he continues to have many complications. He still has a drainage port in his back, he is extremely weak, not gaining weight and can barely walk. He is still having trouble eating and drinking.
The financial stress and loss of income for their family has been huge. Dave was a local FedEx driver and will be out of work for an unforeseeable amount of time into the future.
My daughter Jen is trying to take on all the financial strain and is worried about how their family is going to survive.. To those who know her, she is such an amazing person who shares her love, kindness, joy, and generosity to everyone she comes in contact with. She is trying to take care of Dave, the kids, the house, the bills, and everything all while having health problems of her own.
Please consider helping their family during this very difficult time. Also please share with your family and friends so we can build a community of care and support for whatever they need, especially during this holiday season❤️
