Support for the Sims

My name is Catherine and I am fundraising for some wonderful people who are very dear to my heart - the Sims/McClain family. Seth and Becky have three kids - Alexis (23), Skyler (11), and Cooper (9). Seth has proven himself a great leader for the Missouri Department of Corrections for the last 18 years while Becky has been an invaluable asset to One Call Concepts, Inc. for the last 15.

With the fear of sounding cliche, Seth and Becky are amazing people. Both are hardworking, selfless, empathetic, understanding...the list goes on. All in all, they are genuinely exceptional people. Becky is a nurturer and Seth is a gentle giant. Both are encouraging and will always lift others up no matter what they are going through themselves. Their kids are their entire world. They are a tight-knit family and spend all of their free time together.

Beginning in April 2022, Seth, who never gets sick or misses work, came down with a headache. The headache did not go away and was bad enough that he started missing work. He went to his doctor five separate times where it was brushed off as this, that, and the other. Seth KNEW something was wrong with him. Becky went to the sixth appointment with him where she and Seth convinced the doctor to do an MRI. He went in for the MRI the next day, June 2nd. Becky received a call from the doctor's office stating that she needed to get there immediately to be in the room with Seth while the doc gave the MRI results. Seth was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme, an aggressive and fast-growing brain cancer. The prognosis was that he would be gone within 18 months. Seth was rushed to Boone Hospital where surgery was performed the following morning. Only 85% of the brain tumor was resected.

While Seth was going through radiation and chemotherapy, Becky came down with an excruciating headache. She began vomiting violently and was rushed to the Emergency Room where a brain bleed was discovered. After several weeks and many tests, Becky is in the clear and is doing okay.

Seth completed 42 days of radiation and chemotherapy only to find out the tumor had grown back and his prognosis changed to 6 months. Becky is doing everything in her power to get Seth into a clinical trial as that is their last hope. They are currently waiting to hear back from Johns Hopkins.

To add to all the above heartbreak, this family has lost entirely too many close family members to Covid, car accidents, etc., just in the last few years. Becky also lost both of her parents to cancer when she was a young adult. Because she knows what she went through, she wants to let Skyler and Cooper stay little for as long as possible and keep them from being aware of the full extent of what is happening.

Seth is not clear to work and is down to the last few weeks of medical leave and PTO and the family will soon rely solely on Becky's income. On top of that, if/when Seth gets into a clinical trial, there will be hefty travel expenses.

My hope is to raise some money to help cover some of the medical bills, travel expenses, etc., especially with Seth coming to the end of his paid medical leave. I know firsthand that Becky is always the first to jump at the opportunity to donate to a good cause or to help out anyone in need. It is now time for karma to kick in.
