Let's help support our fellow Veterans and their families.
I'm hoping to raise money for a very old family friend of mine, the Shymkiw Family. Currently, Kevin Shymkiw is in the hospital after a month long battle with an unexpected illness causing: Viral meningitis, Sepsis, pneumonia, liver damage and kidney failure. Kevin was on dialysis 3 days a week. He ran a fever of 105 degrees for 4 days straight. He's been extubated for 2 weeks now and is having issues following commands and is having coordination and memory issues. He had encephalitis in the left hemisphere of his brain. His right side is weaker than the left and his brain is injured from the swelling. He had zero muscle mass. He can't even hold a 1lb hand weight. He's lost 55lbs. The doctors think that whatever happened in Iraq coupled with this near death experience and his body being severely weakened, he is displaying a severe PTSD response and reaction similar to shell shock. Kevin is currently in a rehabilitation facility working with PT and OT 3 hrs a day. He's very uncomfortable. He's too tall for his bed. They didn't provide or apply lotion to his skin that was flaking off. His nails were too long to even hold a hospital cup by the handle. He's not allowed to leave his room.

Kevin is the main provider for the family. Christine. Kevin's wife, has a disability and can not work. She also has to postpone a much needed surgery due to her husband's illness.
They have two small children. Ages 4 and 2. They do not live close to family and have very little help and support.
Scrunch It and myself, want to help this family as much as possible. In these unprecedented times, it's important to remember that there are additional struggles to contend with.
Thank you to all. I appreciate any help you are willing to give.
