As many of you now know, on Friday, February 8th, 2019, Pete and Meredith awoke to a new reality. Their daughter Audrey (2.5 years old) had a high fever and a swollen face. Meredith writes that they rushed her to St. Vincent’s emergency room where it was determined she needed specialized medical attention immediately. A team from Randall Children’s Hospital was assembled and she was rushed over by ambulance. That morning Audrey was diagnosed with leukemia and she was critically septic. The cancer had compromised her immune system significantly and she had been unable to fight off her cold, leading to a dangerous infection.
In the coming days Pete and Meredith learned more about Audrey’s condition, as well what their new normal of case managers and oncologists and medication and side effects would look like with a little one going through chemotherapy. They rejoiced time and time again at God’s faithfulness through a very scary time: her life was spared; her leukemia is very treatable. People have continued to cover them in prayer and offer support for which Pete and Meredith have expressed heartfelt thanks.
Audrey’s official diagnosis is Pre B cell ALL. In the doctors’ words, this is “the best leukemia to have,” as there is a more than 90% rate of being completely cured. Praise the Lord!
I love what Meredith said in a post, after she was able to hold and comfort her daughter for the first time in days: “God has been so good to us in sparing her life. We have a long road ahead of us but at least we get to do it with our little girl.”
We are putting this page together for two reasons:
1. To glorify God together at all He has done and will do in the life of the Robinson family. Here we will share updates from Pete and Meredith, so you can follow along and know how to pray for them and how to rejoice with them.
2. To offer a practical way to help meet their needs in the coming months and years. In addition to medical expenses, there will be times where time off work isn’t covered, or times when it may make sense for them to stay in a hotel close to the hospital, or times where they need care for Josiah, etc. If you would like to contribute financially here, thank you. Pete and Meredith wish for any funds raised over and above their needs to be donated to the Children’s Cancer Association.
For now, please continue to pray over the Robinsons in the following ways:
- For Josiah, that he would be brave for his little sister, and not scared in what he will walk through with her. Pray for the conversations Pete and Meredith get to have with him, and that their time together as a family would be sweet, even as it changes dramatically.
- For Pete and Meredith, that they would continue to know the peace of God as they move forward; that they would have wisdom to navigate the various decisions and processes involved in Audrey’s care; and that they would be a light to those around them who are walking though the same or similar circumstances (parents/family members of other children, friends Audrey makes in her visits, doctors, nurses, caregivers, etc)
- For Audrey, that God would do a miracle in healing her body completely. Pray that she wouldn’t be scared by what she has to endure. Pray that her body would heal now so that the family would be able to be discharged from the hospital and be at home again for further recovery.
O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting. Psalm 107:1
