Support for the Price Family: Britton’s Journey to Recovery
Donation protected
In late November 2024, the Price family’s world was turned upside down when their vibrant 8-year-old son, Britton, began experiencing unexpected symptoms. Britton was urgently transferred by air to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), where he was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a grade 4 (rapid growing yet treatable) brain tumor.
During a complex surgery at CHEO, most of the tumor was successfully removed. While Britton was responsive and talking post-surgery, the tumor’s size and location near the brainstem caused significant swelling. This has left Britton currently non-verbal and with a loss of some motor function due to the swelling. Despite these challenges, Britton’s resilience and courage have shone through every step of the way.
Future Treatment in Boston, MA
To give Britton the best chance at recovery, he will be medically transferred to Boston’s Mass General Brigham for specialized Proton Therapy. This advanced treatment is crucial in targeting any remaining cancer cells while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
Britton’s treatment will include:
- One week of preparation
- Six weeks of intensive proton therapy (30 sessions)
- Additional therapy at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital
- A return to Canada for ongoing chemotherapy treatments
During this time, Britton will remain an inpatient at Mass General Brigham, with his mother, Cassy, staying by his side throughout the treatment. The rest of the Price family is planning to join them in the coming days, offering additional support and love during this time.
The Price Family
The Price family is a cornerstone of Ottawa’s baseball community. Adam Price, Britton’s father, has dedicated countless hours coaching with St. Anthony’s, the Ottawa Knights, and now the Ottawa Nepean Canucks (ONC Baseball). Adam is well-loved for his passion and commitment to youth development both on and off the field.
Britton has grown up surrounded by baseball, often serving as the team bat boy for his older brother Jenson’s teams. He has won the hearts of teammates and families alike. This fall, Britton decided to branch out and take up hockey, showcasing his adventurous spirit and love for sports. He also shares a special bond with his younger sister, Adexis, who, along with Jenson, is providing love and encouragement to their brave brother.
How You Can Help
The Price family is facing immense emotional challenges as they navigate Britton’s journey, along with significant unexpected expenses for travel to Boston, extended stays away from home, and ongoing therapy and treatment needs.
This fundraiser will help the Price family focus on what matters most: Britton’s health and recovery. Your support will directly contribute to:
- Travel and accommodation expenses while in the U.S.
- Day-to-day living costs during Britton’s extended inpatient treatment
- Ongoing therapy and medical expenses to support Britton’s rehabilitation when he returns home
For anyone who knows the Prices, their compassion and selflessness are undeniable. Though they have humbly accepted outside help, the Prices want to ensure that any remaining funds will be donated back to CHEO to support other families in need.
