Support for the Ockinga, Brenneman Families
Donation protected
The world lost one of its brightest lights this week, and it feels surreal to even put this into words. With heavy hearts, we share the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and dear friend, Norm Ockinga.
On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, Norm experienced a critical medical emergency that required an ambulance & emergency airlift from Vashon Island to Harborview Medical Center. Despite the heroic efforts of his colleagues, first responders, and the dedicated medical teams, Norm could not be revived.
Norm was a man of quiet strength, deep compassion, and unwavering kindness—a loving presence whose warmth left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was the kind of person who showed up for others without hesitation, and it’s abundantly clear just how many lives he touched through his generosity, humor, and heartfelt care.
In response to the many people asking how they can help, and in partnership with Norm’s family, we are sharing this opportunity to support them during this incredibly difficult time. The financial strain that comes with sudden medical emergencies and end-of-life arrangements is immense. Any contribution—no matter the amount—will help ease the burden on the Ockinga/Brenneman family as they navigate this profound loss.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the outpouring of love and support as we honor the extraordinary life of Norm.
Edit to add: Due to frequent travel between Vashon, Auburn and Seattle and dietary restrictions, we have decided to go this route as opposed to a meal train. While the Ockinga/Brenneman's are very grateful that many people have offered to provide food, gift cards or donations to this fund are most appreciated at this time. Thank you for your consideration.
