Support for the Newmans

Friends - It is with a heavy heart I write this update. Meghan passed away Saturday, May 14th,  peacefully and in the presence of her family. I know how much everyone's support meant to Meghan, and continues to mean to her family.

Because of your generosity, Meghan was able to purchase a specially outfitted van and other equipment that facilitated her movement, communication, and engagement. She was able to attend her sons' events, and just recently was on the sidelines of the baseball fields cheering on Ames as T helped his team to yet another victory! This wouldn't have possible without you.

As some of you have asked - yes, donations are still able to be accepted on this site.  I know Drew and the boys do not expect anything, but appreciate all the support, love, and well-wishes.

Meghan Newman – mom, wife, friend, neighbor, grant writer – needs our help. Just about one year ago Meghan was diagnosed with ALS (aka Lou Gehrig’s disease). At the time, her symptoms included weakness in her legs and difficulty with balance, yet she could still walk, drive, get together for lunch with friends, and attend her sons’ baseball games.

Despite her efforts, her condition has deteriorated. Currently, Meghan’s ability to speak, write, and walk are all greatly diminished; her lung capacity has dropped to 53%.  Yet Meghan continues to meet this challenge head-on. She has worked with physical therapists, neurologists, speaking and breathing specialists, and enrolled in a clinical trial.  

Meghan and her family need our help. They face hurdles, many of them with big price tags not covered by insurance. They need to renovate and retrofit their 1911 home to accommodate her mobility needs; they will need to provide Meghan with in-home nursing care,  purchase a hospital bed, wheelchair, van with a lift, and install a ramp and lift which requires repaving the driveway.

Our goal is large, but so are her needs. Whatever you give, no matter how small or large, will be appreciated and directly support Meghan, Drew and her family. Thank you for your support!
