Support for the Morley Family

Donation protected
Hello Everyone, we are setting up this GoFundMe page for my beautiful friends Sian and James Morley, who are going through the unthinkable after their beautiful and bubbly 3-year-old daughter Alice was recently diagnosed with cancer.

Alice has a cancerous tumour called Rhabdomyosarcoma with a treatment plan involving chemotherapy and radiation. Alice and her family live in Calliope, QLD but will have to temporarily relocate to Brisbane for her to receive ongoing treatment. This fundraiser has been created to help the family with this relocation, medical costs, and unexpected expenses in the coming months. This GoFundMe is a way to centralise all the offerings of support Sian and James have received from family, friends, and local communities.

The Backstory

Alice has had ptosis (winky eye) since she was born, which is a condition that causes the upper eyelid of one or both eyes to droop. Due to this condition, she sees an Ophthalmologist every 6 months, where on her last appointment on April 16, 2021 the family were told everything was looking normal.

On May 19th, Alice’s parents noticed her right eye was more winky than usual, and after multiple visits to the GP, 3 infections were discovered so they were prescribed drops and oral meds to help fight these. With no real positive change in the eye, Alice’s parents made an urgent appointment with her normal Ophthalmologist down in Brisbane for June 7, 2021.

After running routine checks and scans, Alice was immediately sent over to the Children’s Hospital where that night she went under general anaesthetic for an MRI of her eye, neck, brain, and chest. They also did a CT scan and took a biopsy of what they found. After a painfully long wait to get the results, Sian and James were faced with the devastating news that Alice has a Rhabdomyosarcoma tumour isolated in orbit of her right eye. Over the next couple of days, Alice underwent a variety of tests and scans ranging from a lumbar puncture, bone marrow samples and bone scans, before being moved to the Oncology ward.

Whilst this has been a devastating shock, the results from all the tests have placed Alice at low risk. Treatment is 3-4 months of Chemotherapy followed by 3-4 months of Radiation. Thankfully Alice and her Mum have been able to move out of the hospital and are now staying at Ronald McDonald House whilst treatment begins.

The Funds Raised

This fundraiser was set up with the intention to help the Morley family during this devasting time as only one parent will be able to work for at least the next 6-month period while they stay in Brisbane to support Alice through her treatment. The funds will also be used towards housing for James and the boys while they wait for a house to become available that will accommodate the whole family, school fees (uniforms, books etc) for the boys new school in Brisbane, as well as assisting with the ongoing medications Alice will require post-treatment. Any excess funds will be donated to the charities and services that are currently supporting the Morley Family.

Sian and James are active members of their community who are always the first ones to help, and never ones to ask for help themselves, which is why I am setting up this fundraiser for my dear friends who are loved by so many. The best way we can all help is to relieve the financial stress for Sian and James so they can focus on what’s important right now – Alice’s health and looking after their family. If you can help in any way, I know your contributions will be greatly appreciated.
